A Rainbow of Color in the Perennial Garden

To celebrate pride month we have a rainbow of perennial color waiting for you! Right now the garden is moving into its peak and you gotta be ready with all the color all the time. Here's what you can plant right now in the garden for a full blast of color!

Red

Echinacea (Coneflower) 'Prima Ruby'

Echinacea is a classic herbaceous perennial with endless color combinations, producing bright flowers with cone-like, concentrically blooming centers atop rigid stems. A staple for long-lasting color in sunny garden beds and pollinator gardens. Stunning as a cut flower. 'Prima Ruby' Echinacea features bold red flowers and dark red centers. Blooms emerge in early summer and continue through early fall.

Plant in full sun, resistant to deer, attracts bees, and butterflies, drought resistant.

Orange

Gaillardia (Blanket Flower) 'Gusto Paprika'

Gaillardia is a compact North American native perennial with bright red, yellow, or orange flowers that bloom nearly all season long. Perfect for low sunny borders, pollinator gardens, and boulevard plantings. 'Gusto Paprika' grows in a compact mound of foliage covered with blook mid spring into fall. New blooms appear above old, spent blooms for a tidy appearance without much deadheading.

Plant in full sun, resistant to deer and rabbits, attracts bees and butterflies, drought and road salt tolerant.

Yellow

Hemerocallis (Daylily) 'See You Tomorrow'

A durable herbaceous perennial classic forming mounds of grassy foliage with showy, fragrant, trumpet-like blooms. Wonderful in sunny beds and mixed borders, perfect for boulevard plantings, and excellent when massed together. 'See You Tomorrow' has amazing flower power with individual flowers lasting up to 5 days!

Plant in full sun, resistant to rabbits, drought, road salt and black walnut tolerant.

Green

Hosta (Plantain Lily) 'Island Breeze'

Not a flowering perennial, but a timeless favorite, offering a wide range of sizes, shapes, and colors to liven up shady garden spaces with great foliage interest and scapes of nodding flowers. Thrives in a variety of sites including woodland gardens, tidy shade borders, and difficult dry shady areas. 'Island Breeze' features bright yellow leaves with green margins. Starts with unique red stems in spring when foliage emerges. Centers of leaves turn chartreuse in full shade!

Plant in shade to part sun. Flowers attract hummingbirds. Blooms early to mid summer, amazing variegated foliage, drought, salt, and black walnut tolerant.

Blue

Delphnium (Larkspur) 'Magic Fountains Dark Blue Dark Bee'

Delphinium is an herbaceous perennial with stunning spires of showy blooms and tufts of fern-like foliage. Available in a range of sizes for low or high perennial borders, cottage gardens, and formal designs. Beautiful as a cut flower. 'Dark Blue Dark Bee' has dramatic dark blue flowers with a dark blue center or "bee". Cut back after flowering for another flush of blooms!

Plant in full to part sun. Blooms early to late summer, attracts hummingbirds, deer and rabbit resistant.

Indigo

Scabiosa (Pincushion Flower) 'Flutter Deep Blue'

Scabiosa is an herbaceous perennial forming compact mounds of fuzzy blue-green foliage with large, honey-scented flowers atop stiff wiry stems. Wonderful for lasting color in mixed sunny borders and rock gardens, or massed for impactful texture and color. 'Flutter Deep Blue' boasts an explosion of large, lilac-blue flowers! Huge rewards with little work.

Violet

Veronica (Speedwell) 'Vernique Dark Blue'

Veronia is a compact herbaceous perennial with rich green foliage and long-lasting flower spikes. Great in sunny mixed borders and cottage gardens. Wonderful as a cut flower. 'Vernique Deep Blue' is extremely powdery mildew resistant, is easy to grow, and blooms continuously throughout the summer.
