Weekly Plant Chat: Lemon Cypress

Hey Plant Friends!

This week we are talking about Cupressus macrocarpa 'Goldcrest', more commonly known as Lemon Cypress. Lemon Cypress is available seasonally in the greenhouse and is a great addition to your holiday home and is beloved for its lemon-y scent.

Family of Origin

Lemon Cypress belongs to the Cupressaceae plant family which includes conifers such as cypress, redwood, and juniper. This plant is native to Monterey Bay on the coast of central California.

Plant Care

Light

Place in a bright, sunny spot in your home. Bright light indoors is required to maintain their lime green color.

Soil

When it's time to repot, use a well-draining potting soil rich in organic matter. We recommend Tonka Terra, our houseblend potting soil.

Water

NEVER let these babies dry out! Check every few days for watering and keep evenly moist.

Fertilizer

During active growth, spring through fall, fertilizer ever two weeks with an acidic fertilizer such as Evergreen Tone.

Hot Tips

Keep an eye out for common pests such as mealy bugs, scale, and spider mites. Check for pests weekly while watering. Keep a bottle of Bonide’s Insecticidal Soap on hand for easy treatment.

Trim your Lemon Cypress to maintain a tidy appearance.

Lemon Cypress is generally safe for out furry friends.
