Cebu Blue
Hey Plant Friends!
This week we are talking about Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Cebu Blue’, more commonly known as Cebu Blue pothos. This striking blueish-green plant is native to the Cebu Island in the Philippines and belongs to the Araceae family along with so many of our favorite Aroids. You have most likely seen it in its juvenile form at the garden center, but mature leaves have beautiful fenestrations. If you are looking for an easy-care plant to add to your collection, this is a great option!
Let’s talk about care. Your Cebu Blue is going to want bright, indirect light - a bit more light than your usual Pothos. Be careful of direct sun as this could burn the foliage. Considering this is an Aroid, we suggest using a good chunky mix with ample drainage. Sol Soils Houseplant Mix is an excellent choice, or you can mix your own using equal parts potting mix, orchid bark, and perlite, with half parts charcoal and worm castings. When watering, allow the top 2-3 inches of soil to dry out before giving a good soak. Cut back on watering during the winter months as it will take longer for your plant to dry down. Add humidity to your environment using a Continuous Spray Bottle.
In the long run, Cebu Blue will reward you with fenestrated leaves. To achieve this add Mossify's Bendable Moss Pole to encourage climbing. Keep an eye out for common pests such as mealy bugs and spider mites. Check for pests weekly when watering and keep a bottle of Bonide’s Insecticidal Soap on hand for easy treatment.
Cebu Blue Pothos are available at Tonkadale in 4” pots and 8” hanging baskets. If you have additional questions feel free to reach out by phone, Instagram, or email us at hello@tonkadale.com.
Happy Planting!
