Wintergreens Winter Care

It's time to spruce up your pots with wintergreens! With proper care, your spruce top pot arrangements will last long into the new year!

Top 10 Tips

  1. Get your greens going as soon as they arrive. It's easiest and most pleasant to stuff your pots when your pots aren't frozen and when the weather is warm-ish.
  2. Fill your pots with Tonka Terra, 1 bag fill 2, 12" pots. This is the good stuff that holds lots of water and keeps greens in place.
  3. Give all your greens a fresh cut. Just like cut flowers or your Christmas tree, greens will continue to take up water until they are frozen solid
  4. Stuff your pots full! When your pots are full, all elements stay in place and hold up to the elements. Afterall, these are the pots you enjoy the longest each year (and with that comes the unfortunate fact of a long winter ahead)
  5. Keep it simple. Start with spruce tops, skirt the bottom with Norway pine, choose a complimentary green and/or leafy bundle, twigs, berries, cones. And maybe a bird!
  6. Water your pots until they freeze solid. This ensures water up-take and freshness.
  7. Wilt Stop for the win! Spray all greens with a product called Wilt Stop, a natural pine resin that coats the needle and keeps the moisture in.
  8. Decorate for the season, not just the day. Wire or tie in holiday specific items so they can easily be removed after holiday celebrations have commenced.
  9. If you don't have time to create your own pot, grab a pre-made container to "drop-in" at home.
  10. Add a hand tied bow, ribbon makes everything better!
