Weekly Plant Chat: Syngonium Pink Perfection

Hey Plant Friends!

This week we are talking about Syngonium ‘Pink Perfection’, more commonly known as Arrowhead plant. This plant is known for its striking pink foliage with leaves that start off pointed like an arrow then become multi-lobbed when mature. Syngonium are actually a woody vine in their natural habitat growing up trees and anything they can attach to.

Family of Origin

Syngonium belong to the Araceae or Aroid plant family along with philodendrons, monstera, and anthurium. All plants in this family Syngonium are native to tropical rainforests in southern Mexico, the West Indies, Central and South America.

Plant Care

Light

Syngonium thrive in bright, indirect light. Bright light will help maintain pink, vibrant leaves and maintain compact growth. Place your plant in a sunny window in your home.

Soil

When it's time to repot, we recommend using a chunky soil that drains well and also supports Aroid growth. We love Sols Soil's Houseplant Chunky Mix.

Water

Check your plant weekly for watering and give it a good soak when the first 2-3 inches of soil are dry. Never let this plant dry all the way down. Never allow it to sit in standing water as this can lead to root rot. Cut back on watering during winter as growth will slow.

Fertilizer

Fertilize in the spring and with active growth with an all-purpose fertilizer. We recommend Schultz All-Purpose Liquid Plant Food. Cut fertilizer routine in half in the fall and winter.

Hot Tips

Keep an eye out for common pests such as mealy bugs and spider mites. Check for pests weekly when watering and keep a bottle of Bonide’s Insecticidal Soap on hand for easy treatment.
