Rosemary

Hey Plant Friends!

This week we are switching things up and talking about Salvia rosmarinus, more commonly known as rosemary, and specifically the conical form that is available seasonally in the greenhouse. This aromatic herb belongs to the Lamiaceae family and is native to the Mediterranean. Rosemary is a perennial plant in some areas, an annual for us, and is usually grown outdoors. Nothing says holiday time like the smell of fresh herbs in the house. Aesthetically pleasing and also useful, a rosemary topiary is a festive addition to your holiday home. Just add a bow!

Let’s talk about care. An abundance of sunlight is key to keeping this plant healthy and happy indoors. Rosemary will need 6 plus hours of direct sun indoors, a south facing window is best. When it comes to watering, never let the soil dry out completely. If your plant dries all the way down, leaves will dry up and drop. When watering, avoid wetting the leaves as this could lead to powdery mildew, a fungus that is common to rosemary. Preventatively treat with a fungicide such as Revitalize which is food safe and also suitable for organic gardening. Plant in a well-draining potting soil such as Espoma's All Purpose Potting Mix.

Rosemary is available at Tonkadale in as a 8” conical topiary. If you have additional questions feel free to reach out by phone, Instagram, or email us at hello@tonkadale.com.

Happy Planting!
