Weekly Plant Chat: Manjula Pothos

Hey Plant Friends!

This week we are talking about Epipremnum aureum 'Manjula', more commonly known as Manjula Pothos. This cultivar is known for its large, variegated foliage which closely resembles Pothos Marble Queen but has white, green, and cream patchy variegation.

Family of Origin

Manjula Pothos belongs to the Aroid or Araceae plant family along with Philodendron, Monstera, and Syngonium.

Plant Care

Light

Pothos grow vigorously in bright, indirect to medium light. Some varieties do tolerate low light, but their color may dull, variegation may fade, and they can become leggy and stretched. Place directly in a window for best results but avoid direct sun.

Soil

Because Pothos are aroids, they like a chunky, airy mix. When it’s time to repot, we recommend Sol Soils House Plant Chunky Mix. This mix includes perlite, pumice, coconut husks, pine bark, and more to achieve the perfect balance of aeration, drainage, and water holding capacity.

Water

Allow soil to dry to dry down a few inches before giving a good soak. Never allow soil to dry out all the way as this can cause root damage.

Fertilizer

Fertilize with an all-purpose fertilizer. We recommend Schultz All Purpose Liquid Plant Food. As growth slows in the winter months, fertilize at half strength.

Hot Tips

Check for pests weekly while watering and keep a bottle of Bonide’s Insecticidal Soap on hand for easy treatment.

Pothos love to climb! Grow on a moss pole to achieve large leaves as observed in their natural habitat.

Pothos are not pet friendly and may be toxic to our furry friends.
