Weekly Plant Chat: Hibiscus
Hey plant friends!
This week we will be talking about Hibiscus. This plant belongs to the Malvaceae family and is native to subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. If you are looking to add that tropical vibe to your space with punchy, vibrant flowers - then this is the plant for you.
When caring for a Hibiscus, their number one need is that you have full sun. Having at least 6 hours of full sun is crucial, and they will do best outdoors in our hot and humid summers! As always, make sure to provide this plant with a well-draining soil such as our Tonka Terra. Since Hibiscus will be living their best life in the sunshine, they will need to be checked for water daily. Water thoroughly each time.
A tip for keeping those gorgeous blooms all summer is to fertilize your Hibiscus with a bloom booster like Miracle Gro's Miracid. This is a great plant for your patio, pool, or a sunny front porch. Underplant with other sun loving annuals such as lantana, geraniums, and petunias!
The Hibiscus in the greenhouse won’t last long and are available as standards (shrub style) and in 10” pots in a myriad of colors!

Bud drop occurs with too-low and too-high temperatures, as well as too much or too little water. Consider these factors if your hibiscus sets, but then drops, buds.
