Frizzle Sizzle

🌿Hey plant friends! 🌿

This week we are talking about Albuca spiralis commonly known as Frizzle Sizzle. These special plants are part of the Asparagaceae family just like asparagus fern and other monocot favorites like sansevieria, agave, and yucca. Native to the Western and Northern Cape Provinces in South Africa, frizzle sizzle is one of the cutest plants to bring into your home. With their curly leaves and a bulbous base, this plant is far from your regular old greenery. Easy to grow in the right conditions.

Albuca spiralis need bright light indoors. Make sure to place this plant in a bright window, preferably a south facing, especially during those dark winter months. When planting use loose, well-draining soil like the Espoma's Organic Cactus Mix. Albuca like to completely dry out in between watering. Just like in their natural environment, they can handle some drought. You will really want to cut back on watering during the winter months.

These adorable plants also bloom - lightly scented yellow flowers. Do keep in mind, when these plants bloom the leaf tips tend to brown out. To avoid this, simply cut the flower stock off. If you are looking for something different to spice up your succulent collection, then this is a go-to!

We currently carry Albuca spiralis in 2” and 4” pots in the greenhouse. If you have any further questions feel free to reach out to us by phone, Instagram, or email us at hello@tonkadale.com.

Happy planting!
