Cissus Discolor
Hey plant friends!
This week we are talking about Cissus discolor commonly known as the Rex Begonia vine. This plant belongs to the Vitaceae family, just like grapes, and is native to the tropical rainforest of the island Java. This is a gorgeous vining plant that is perfect for shade outside in the summer. Provide Cissus something to climb up, like a trellis or let it hang!
Water Cissus frequently in the summer as this is the time they are actively growing. Don’t allow the soil to go completely dry. Check for watering daily. During fall and winter, growth will slow dramatically so water sparingly. Do wait for the soil to become completely dry during this time period before watering. Misting your Cissus is highly recommended daily indoors to increase humidity. As always use a well-draining soil like Espoma’s Organic Potting Mix. Never let your plant sit in standing water, this will result in root rot. If you have your Cissus outside in the summer, place in bright indirect light, no direct light. Indoors cissus calls for bright light!
Cissus Discolor is back in stock at the greenhouse in 6” pots. We grew them ourselves! If you have any further questions feel free to reach out to us by phone, Instagram, or email us at hello@tonkadale.com.
Happy planting!
