Apoballis 'Lavallaei'
Hey Plant Friends!
This week we are talking about Apoballis acuminatissima 'Lavallaei'. This plant belongs to the Araceae family and is native to Indonesia. This Aroid is new to cultivation and known for its striking mottled silver foliage and burgundy undersides. You must add this Aroid to your collection as a statement piece in your collection.
Let’s talk about care. Apoballis will do best in bright, indirect light. Direct sun may cause leaf scorch. Move your plant outside to a shady spot for the summer months as they love high humidity. For the dryer months indoors, supplement humidity with a Continuous Spray Bottle. When it’s time to repot, we recommend Sol Soils Houseplant Chunky Mix - a great option for all Aroids. Apoballis love even! Allow the top 1 inch of soil to dry before watering, cut back during the winter months. If your plant is too dry it will show you by visibly curling its leaves. When watering, give it a good soak at the sink but never allow to sit in standing water as this can cause root rot. Keep an eye out for common pests such as mealy bugs and spider mites. Check for pests weekly when watering and keep a bottle of Bonide’s Insecticidal Soap on hand for easy treatment. Apoballis are non-toxic making them a great pet friendly option!
We currently carry Apoballis 'Lavallaei' in 4” pots in the greenhouse. If you have any further questions feel free to reach out to us by phone, Instagram, or email us at hello@tonkadale.com.
Happy planting!
