A deciduous shrub with spectacular reddish-purple foliage that shifts to a brilliant scarlet in autumn, as well as smoke-like plumes of pinkish purple seed clusters. Foliage is scorch-resistant unless the conditions are extremely dry. Excellent as a small specimen tree or privacy screen.
