A fabulous Midwest historic variety introduced in 1937 by the Robert Buist Company. Heavy yields of football-shaped 4-8 pound muskmelons. Hard-shelled with firm sweet flesh. Great old-fashioned flavor associated with roadside stand melons. If you can only grow one melon and do not want to be disappointed, this is the variety to grow.
Melons are traditionally eaten raw or fresh. Top a slice of melon with a dash of salt and serve with any meal or on its own!
Melon pairs nicely with both sweet and savory flavors so you can combine it with other fruits in a salad or toss with mint, feta, and cured pork or bacon.
