A dramatic herbaceous tall perennial, reaching up to 4' tall. Green to chocolate brown foliage turns red in fall and is topped by velvety red flower plumes. More sun tolerant than most astilbe but prefers shade. Works wonderfully as an accent feature in wetter areas such as around ponds or fountains.
