Greenhouse: Waterer and Applicator

Objective:  To efficiently and effectively grow and maintain excellent quality plant material by watering and fertilizing while applying Tonkadale’s Integrated Pest Management programs. To provide seasonal support in the Greenhouse Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and perform watering duties in the greenhouse related to annual plant care.
  • Operate and use automatic irrigation systems.
  • Mix fertilizer and follow fertilization schedules.
  • Monitor and measure pH/EC levels in irrigation water and growing media.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required.
  • Use and maintain personal protective equipment.
  • Utilize Tonkadale’s Integrated Pest Management system to scout, identify, and monitor pest and disease populations
  • Plan, recommend, and apply biological and chemical applications in the greenhouse.
  • Maintain clean and tidy work areas.
  • Put away or return all plastic, tools, cardboard carts or other supplies at the end of each shift or when work is complete.
  • Understand and communicate Tonkadale’s policies.
  • Guide customers and provide consistent and correct information.
  • Deliver superior, on-brand customer service.
  • Participate in all greenhouse duties and cultural practices as directed.
  • Trim, deadhead and clean plant material.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a commercial pesticide applicator’s license.
  • Minimum two-year degree in horticulture or related experience.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, friendly, and helpful attitude.
  • A sincere curiosity to learn and grow.
  • A genuine passion for plants, people, and sustaining our planet.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Always approachable to customers, teammates, and management
  • Perform physical activities including repeatedly lifting 10-20 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Flexibility in scheduling with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Overtime availability.
  • Weekly weekend availability required.
