Our quest this year is to educate and entertain you while providing the best plant inspired experiences EVER! Each month, look forward to the release of our beautifully illustrated garden calendar - your guide to what to do when in the garden (both inside and out)!

Start Seeds Indoors
Starting seeds indoor can be rewarding and even a bit overwhelming. Seed starting builds anticipation for the season ahead and also the opportunity to try new varieties with low inputs and less risk. Knowing what to start when is the best place to start. Check out our Seed Starting blog for all the info!
Start Flowers Early February
Start flowers such as pansies, violas, and impatiens indoor in early February.
Start Leeks, Peppers, and Onions Mid-Month
Start peppers (especially the hot ones), leeks, and onions indoors mid-February.
Plant a window garden of Lettuce, Herbs, and/or Microgreens
For instant gratification, seed a window garden with lettuce and fast-growing herbs such as parsley and chives.

Prepare for Spring
Check Plants for Pests
February is the time of year indoor pest problems may arise. Inspect plants closely this month and treat accordingly.

Apply deer & rabbit repellents on tender trees & shrubs
In the winter, when food is scarce, deer and rabbits may be tempted to munch on the tender bark of young trees and shrubs. A timely application of repellants this month will keep away the critters. Granular repellants can be applied any time, liquids when temperatures are above freezing.

Prune Deciduous Trees
The best time to prune most deciduous trees is during their late dormant season, before new growth begins. This allows for faster wound closure before the onset of spring growth. Now is the time to prune (or hire someone to prune) maples, oaks, and dogwood. Now is not the time to prune early-spring blooming shrubs such as rhododendron and forsythias as they set bud last summer.
Oxalis and Shamrocks Arrive
Oxalis and Shamrocks arrive in the greenhouse this month! We love them for their delicate, dancing foliage and cute little flowers. Now is the only time to get them as they are usually only seasonally available in the greenhouse.
